Virtual Worlds

Once upon a time, I heard a saying that explained the whole Internet to me. "It's not real, it's virtually real."

And now, so is our server. The AU MUD is now running from a virtual server living somewhere in the south of England and not from Betelguese after all.

If you have any experiences with this new virtual setup, good or bad, please post them here or on jeremy's new forum at aumudboards.proboards98.com.

Party Aftermath

The cleaning bots have still not finished cleaning up after the obviously successful party hosted by jeremy two weeks ago at Geiger Rising. Amidst the snacks and party favours, the small group who attended made up for their lack of numbers by their sheer enthusiam. After the main party, which lasted most of the day on Saturday, August 25, broke up, a few stragglers went on an extended tour of the Station and outlying areas, visiting and viewing an impressive array of building projects in progress.

After the party, jeremy issued this interesting statement:

"I told everyone I was from some planet called Earth, but it wasn't the truth. I was actually a builder on a planet called Xrin. (Xrin is known as "planet of the shape-shifters," which explains my constant shape shifting.) While I was travelling in space [searching] for new building ideas, my ship begain to lose fuel and I was forced to land on Xylan; my ship had a rough landing and crashed. I am now living on Isis, frequently visiting Sigma. I plan to building new and fascinating areas."

If his building projects are as intersting as his stories, we all have a lot to look forward to.

Congrats to treasure hunt winner barnoid, just back from roughing it in the wilds of deepest, darkest Mudhenge.

The new, new URL for the AU website is now active. Point your browser of choice to http://au.dyndns.org for more info.

Building Updates

Rumours abound of new building activity on and around the Station. jeremy might just be announcing something soon. He mentioned to this reporter that he is thinking of throwing a party at Geiger Rising, funded by his recent treasure hunt winnings, and may use the occasion to let us all in on his recent projects.

Residents old and new should also be on the lookout for a newly published Guide to help everyone take the fullest advantage of all that Sigma Station and its environs have to offer. No word from author scribe on whether any of the advice on offer involves the number 42.

The Core continues to manifest a cranky mood. Any residents experiencing server strangeness are asked to post a comment here and not mention their complaints within the Core's hearing. We don't want to tick the AI off any more than it already is.

Who's Onboard

The residents of Sigma Station have been pleased to see some old regulars back onboard the station, including fearless test pilot wedgefreak, architects scribe and barnoid, and our own shapeshifter jeremy (hei, j!).

We would like to welcome a new resident, bls5782, who has been making some excellent progress investigating the Artefact and has also been keeping in good touch with Station authorities.

Congrats to some recent treasure hunt winners, including scribe and jeremy. Keep up the good hunting, everyone.

AU Website Change

The AU website is still alive, with info and help for new players, but its URL has changed. Instead of the old cyberjunkie.com/au, please use http://tinyurl.com/2492pg It is a good sign of longevity when a game outlives a few URLs!

Welcome!

Welcome to the new home of the Sigma Signal. Due to a variety of changes going on in the world of the Alternate Universe MUD, the command staff and residents of Sigma Station, the planet Xylan and the moon Isis have been without news of the outside world for more than a year now. This regrettable state of affairs will hopefully be corrected by establishing new lines of communication.

By using this blog, we can keep news updated on a more timely basis. Also, in lieu of the now defunct forum, readers may add their comments (pending editorial approval, of course).

We will endeavor to keep you abreast of current developments and look forward to seeing you soon.

Now, go play in the MUD!
